The University of Minnesota’s TeleOutreach Hub is creating a provider ecosystem to help military families and those living in geographically dispersed areas with developmental, emotional, or behavioral health concerns.

Voting With a Disability: Breaking Down Barriers to the Ballot

People with disabilities often face barriers to voting in elections, whether voting in person or by mail. In this Frontline Initiative article, Brian Dimmick and Aaron Madrid Aksoz explain the voting rights of people with disabilities and offer advice on using those rights.

Election rules can be complicated and vary from place to place. Voter registration deadlines are common. The authors encourage people to register early, as some states require registration 30 days or more before an election.

Special Education’s Difficult History

Norena Hale, the former state director of special education, researched and wrote an ICI-sponsored book about the history of special education teachers in Minnesota from the 1840s to 2023.

It is a story of laws ensuring an appropriate education for young people with disabilities, teacher training, low salaries, and dire labor shortages.
